Why do some babies experience more discomfort while teething ?, electric toothbrushes, electric flosser

Attention Parents!!

Gather around because the topic of discussion today is a parent’s greatest ordeal, “teething”. The process of teething marks a transformation in a baby’s development. This is when the teeth first emerge from the gums. It is a serious condition and a natural part of growth, but also, it is incredibly painful. It usually begins around six months of age, although it can start as early as three months or as late as twelve months.

This process continues until the child is about three years old, by which time they have a full set of  20 primary teeth. Like every other developmental process, every child goes through this one too, in their own way. Some infants move through teething in a simple easy breeze, however some experience extreme discomfort and pain.

Before we examine the reasons of severe discomfort for some babies, let us discuss some of the most common symptoms of teething first:

  1. Drooling : Increased drooling can also lead to redness, irritation and skin rash around the chin.

  2. Swollen and Sensitive Gums : The gums may appear red and more sensitive than usual.

  3. Fever : The body temperature ranges higher than usual causing “teething fever”. However, if the fever is unusually high, you should consult a doctor immediately.

  4. Changes in Sleeping and Eating Patterns : Some babies lose sleep and have lower appetite during teething.

  5. Biting and Gnawing : Babies tend to excessively bite to soothe their sore gums.

Now that we have had a chance to look at the symptoms, let's get to the tricky parts and also look at some of the reasons why some babies experience more discomfort comparatively :

  • Like adults, babies too have different levels of pain tolerance and sensitivity. Some babies are comfortable with the pain, whereas some find it too overwhelming.

  • The order and sequence in which teeth grow can affect your pain levels. First teeth like lower central incisors tend to be less painful and while the later ones like molars and canines can be more painful.

  • Genetics too play a huge role. If parents had a rough time dealing with teething, so will the kids.

  • If the baby has an underlying infection or illness, it can add to the pain of teething.

  • Poor oral hygiene can result in gums making  teething even more painful.

Celebrate your kids' milestones by gifting them electric toothbrushes and electric flosser by ORACURA. Give them the gift of oral care and provide them with comfort along with their oral hygiene.
