What Is The Cause of Gingival Pain?

Poor oral hygiene can be the leading cause of several dental diseases such as tooth decay, bad breath, gum problems, and more. One such dental concern is called gingivitis. It is a common and mild form of gum disease, which if not treated at an early stage can also lead to serious oral problems such as periodontitis and tooth decay. Gingivitis causes inflammation, redness, and irritation of the Gingiva.

Causes of Gingival Pain:

One of the most common causes of gingivitis is poor dental care routine. In today's fast-paced modern lifestyle, it is necessary to take the right measures for your oral care. Thus, it is recommended to switch to an automatic toothbrush and cordless water flosser in order to achieve thorough cleaning of the mouth. This is because regular manual brushes and thread flossers are unable to clean every corner of the mouth, leaving behind food residues that get stuck on the teeth & gums. This can later lead to several dental concerns.

The following below are some of the other causes of Gingival pain. Read on to know more:

1] Excess Plaque Build-up: Dental plaque is a sticky biofilm that contains bacteria and gets stuck on the teeth. It is necessary to ensure that plaque gets removed on a regular basis. This is because, if not treated, this plaque can harden into tartar, leading to irritation along the gumline. Tartar is harder to remove and requires professional cleaning. If the plaque and tartar are left untreated on the teeth for a longer duration, it can irritate the gingiva i.e. the gum around the base of the teeth. This leads to inflammation, swelling, irritation, and even bleeding of the gums. It can also eventually lead to several complicated dental concerns such as tooth loss.

2] Age: Age is also one of the primary factors that can cause gum problems and gingivitis. It is found that incidents of periodontal diseases increase with age.

3] Smoking: People who smoke regularly are at a higher risk of developing gum diseases such as gingivitis. It can also increase the severity of dental diseases and can have a negative impact on their treatment. In order to ensure the utmost overall and oral health, quit smoking today.

4] Hormonal Changes: Did you know that hormonal changes can actually affect the health of your gums, increasing the risk of gingivitis? During this phase, the gums might become more sensitive than usual and it can lead to a higher risk of inflammation.
